Influencer and Bustle.com Contributor Olivia Muenter Shares Her Picks

When influencer, editor, and plus size advocate, Olivia Muenter got engaged, she immediately did what many brides do – consult Pinterest. She examined boards she had spent years putting together for wedding inspiration and quickly was struck by the startling fact that none of the brides on her wedding gown page looked like her. Not a single image featured a bride over a size 6. There were no images featuring pretty plus size wedding dresses, so she  took it upon herself to change that.

Olivia worked with the editorial team for Bustle.com to seek out the best plus size dresses you can buy right now, and photograph them on stunning plus size models. In the accompanying piece, Olivia recognized David’s Bridal as one of the few stores that truly has gowns for brides of any shape, size, or budget and highlights our designer collaborations, price point, and inclusive sizing. Two wedding dresses from David’s Bridal were featured – see below.

Draped Off-The-Shoulder Crepe Sheath Gown

Brides looking for a chic, modern bridal look at an incredible price should consider this Draped Off-the-Shoulder Crepe Sheath Gown from the DB Studio Collection. The slim silhouette shows off curves, while the open neckline elongates the neck and draws attention to your face. For under $200, this wedding dress would be lovely for a casual wedding, City Hall elopement, or even a fancier rehearsal dinner. Proof that pretty plus size wedding dresses don’t have to cost a fortune!

Cap Sleeve Lace Illusion Plus Size Wedding Dress

Brides envisioning a grand bridal moment will love this Cap sleeve Lace Illusion Plus Size Wedding Dress from the Oleg Cassini Collection. Its ball gown skirt is fit for a princess, and layers of lace applique, tulle, and a touch of sparkle make this gown look ultra-luxe for under $2,000! A deep plunging neckline and open back freshen up this traditional silhouette and add a touch of sexy. Illusion sleeves and neckline add a bit of sheer coverage and support.

Romper.com shares tips when you’re wearing for two.

Romper.com, the leading digital destination for millennial moms, spoke with Heather McReynolds, Divisional Merchandise Manager at David’s Bridal, about how to shop for a wedding dress while pregnant. In their discussion, they touch on certain details to consider to make you and your growing bump feel gorgeous, and most importantly comfortable, on your big day.

  1. Leave Room to Grow

It is important to keep in mind how far along you’ll be on the big day. “My recommendation is to always go two sizes up; we can easily take the dress in if it’s still too big. If you’re shopping early on in your pregnancy, you can use a maternity pillow during the initial stages of selecting the dress or size before ordering” advises McReynolds.

  2. Consider Flowy Styles

Empire styles are great because they’re fitted at the bust, then have a lot of room for your growing bump” states McReynolds. “Having a flowy dress eliminates much of the alteration guess work and allows for several months’ growth when you likely won’t know the size when you go in for your next fitting.”

  3. … But Don’t Rule Out Form-Fitting Dresses

Some brides want a gown to show off their bump in all of its glory. If that is the case, talk to your bridal consultant or seamstress about curve hugging styles (such as a mermaid or sheath) and find out how to best fit the dress to flatter your form without being too tight.

  4. Look for Pregnancy-Friendly Fabrics

Gowns in lighter fabrics such as crepe, tulle, chiffon, or stretchy jersey will carry you throughout the wedding day with ease.

  5. Shop Maternity Styles

“Whether you’re a bride or a bridesmaid, if you’ll be in your third trimester on the big day, you should consider a maternity wedding dress,” recommends McReynolds. “It will fit you better without address stressful fittings – not to mention, you’ll be more comfortable!”

  6. Keep Your Shoes in Mind

Pregnancy can be tough on your feet. The best pregnancy shoes are flexible to accommodate fluctuation in swelling and structured to take some of the pressure off.

  7. Time Your Last Fitting

Even though most women prefer to have their gown in hand long before their big day, the opposite is true for pregnant brides. “I’d recommend having your final fitting the week of the wedding, which would allow a day or two for any last minute adjustments,” says McReynolds.

How David’s Bridal was part of the Royal Wedding media frenzy.

We weren’t the only ones eager to learn every breathtaking detail about the Royal Wedding. In the months leading up to Meghan and Harry’s nuptials, it seemed like not a day went by when there wasn’t a new headline in the media about the couple or the wedding. From wedding dress style predictions, to speculations about who would design the iconic gown to, to the wedding cake and the exclusive guest list, the media kept us informed during Royal Wedding watch, and David’s Bridal was honored to be included in some of the conversations. Read on for a few of our favorite media mentions surrounding the Royal Wedding.

TheKnot.com

If we learned one thing from the Royal Wedding it is that Meghan Markle is every bit a modern princess. From when we first saw her step out of the car at church to when her and her new husband were entering another car to head to their reception, one thing was for sure – She looked stunning in both of her looks. The anticipation of what she would wear, who would be the designer, every last detail had us all waiting with bated breath. Prior to May 19th, the David’s Bridal Design Team (along with many many other people throughout the world) imagined what they could envision the future Duchess of Sussex wearing on her big day.

We worked with the team at TheKnot.com on a story where they featured the exclusive sketches from our design team. The Oleg Cassini sketch gave off true princess vibes, while the White by Vera Wang sketch took a more modern stance, a little edgy and a little leggy. Galina Signature imagined Meghan in a fit and flare gown to accentuate her fantastic figure, while Melissa Sweet went with a more a traditional look exuding a romantic and vintage feel. Lastly, the David’s Bridal collection proposed a classic and timeless wedding gown style with an updated edge.

Racked.com

In other wedding related news, Racked.com published an article titled “Bridal Designers Are Already Preparing to Reinterpret Meghan Markle’s Wedding Dress”, which featured insight from Lori Conley, David’s Bridal Senior Vice President of Product and Design. Lori shared that after the royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton, David’s Bridal created a replica dress. Surprising to all, the dress did not do as well as anticipated because brides did not want to feel like they were in costume on their own wedding day. With that learning the team at David’s Bridal made the decision not to replicate Meghan Markle’s dress but instead will take specific design cues and details to incorporate into future collections.

Good Day New York

Following the Wedding, stylist Brooke Jaffe went on Fox 5 Good Day New York to host a segment titled “Royal Wedding Dress Lookalikes”. In this segment she created Meghan Markle Looks for Less and featured the David’s Bridal White by Vera Wang High Neck Halter Gown as a match back to her reception look, David’s Bridal Regal Tiara, and our Scalloped Lace Edge Cathedral Veil. Watch the full segment here!

All in all, this royal wedding was everything we could have dreamed of and more! Can’t wait for the next one 😉 Cheerio!

The countdown to Prom is on!

Chances are, if you are heading to senior prom, you’ve been planning for this special night since the first day of freshman year. You’ve skimmed your favorite mags and ‘liked’ the coolest posts on the ‘gram. Without a doubt, Seventeen is the go-to resource for prom tips and tricks and they have featured a handful of our favorite accessories to amp up your look.

Noah Cyrus was featured on the front cover wearing a sparkly headband from our accessories collection. Since this headband has an elastic band, it doubles as the perfect choker to complete an effortlessly cool look. Pro tip: Try wearing your accessories in new and interesting ways to stand out from the crowd like Noah did!

We all love to look to the stars for outfit inspiration and Millie Bobby Brown, who plays Eleven in the hit show ‘Stranger Things’, is the ultimate cool girl to copy. Her gorgeous white dress that she wore to the 2017 Emmys looks just like a tea-length wedding dress from our David’s Bridal Collection. This looks screams modern day prom princess!

The Seventeen Instagram feed is full of promspirational posts! They’ve been showing us all season long how to incorporate the perfect accessories into your prom look. Whether it’s a fun statement earring, blinged-out bracelets, or a jeweled headband, we’re your one stop shop for all things Prom!

Prom is a special night for dressing up and making memories and we’re here to help you create the look of your dreams. No matter your prom style, just make sure you have fun!

A Tinder match made in heaven.

In a world where digital and dating go hand in hand, it’s no surprise that more and more couples are finding ‘the one’ online. The Atlanta Hawks and Tinder took this to heart by decided to bring their worlds together and host a ‘Swipe Right Night’ back in 2015. The Hawks said that if any couple matched that night decided to get married one day, they would pay for the wedding. Fast forward to March 3rd, 2018, when Avery Armstrong and Ben McCleskey said their long awaited ‘I Do’s’ with a little help from the Atlanta Hawks and David’s Bridal (and a honeymoon from Tinder)!

We fell in love with Avery and Ben’s story and knew we had to help make their day special. Avery and her bridal party accepted our invitation to come and shop for their head-to-toe looks. While she fell in love with a vintage inspired Melissa Sweet lace gown, her 11 bridesmaids mixed and matched between two different styles and colors (one of our favorite trends!). We also helped to dress Avery’s mom and her flower girl. It was such an honor to be part of their big day!

The newly married couple’s story immediately captured the attention of leading news outlets and publications and with no surprise, was a viral sensation! The Knot received the first photos from their wedding and shared the swoon worthy love story on their website and social channels. (Click through to the article for more!)

Whether you choose to swipe left or swipe right to find your forever partner, you can always count on David’s Bridal to help make your dress dreams come true!

Who What Wear shares the inspiration for our Spring 2018 Galina campaign.

Who What Wear, the elevated online destination for aspirational yet accessible fashion content, shared an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at our Spring 2018 Galina Collection campaign shoot in Joshua Tree National Park. The editors at Who What Wear speak with our design team about inspiration behind this season’s collection. They discuss adventure, travel, bridal trends and who we see as our Galina girl.

Dan Rentillo, Vice President of design and product development, explains that this season’s campaign was inspired by a couple seeking adventure, experience, and travel. Hosting the photo shoot at Joshua Tree seemed so fitting to our team. A dramatic desert with the expansive open sky and amazing natural light is the perfect backdrop to narrate the Spring 2018 Galina story and highlight new Galina wedding dresses.

Defining our Galina bride as eclectic, free-spirited, playful, and fresh, this season we address her style evolution. Focusing on the ease of this collection, Spring 2018 offers the Galina bride flowier shapes, lighter fabrics and plenty of vintage Boho wedding dress styles. Although Galina is a cohesive collection, each dress is individual and has unique fabric accents.

Stock your wedding emergency kit with these essentials.

No matter how much you’ve planned, prepped, and prayed, something still may go awry on your big day. But don’t stress! With a little thinking ahead, you’ll be able to conquer any close call in time for your grand entrance. Here’s what to pack in your wedding emergency kit:

Safety pins

Safety pins are perfect for on-the-fly alterations, positioning your wedding dress for photos or, heaven forbid, mending a tear. Ask a bridesmaid to tuck a few into her purse and gain instant peace of mind.

Nail polish

Grandma’s trick still works: If you have a run in your stockings, clear nail polish will stop it mid-stride. The same technique works if you get a snag in your veil, too.

Bobby pins

Bobby pins are your hair’s best friends: they’re strong, supportive, and they make you look good. Be sure to have a heap of extras on standby for wedding hair fixes.

Translucent face powder

Movie stars are often patted down with translucent powder on-screen and on the red carpet—and aren’t you the star of your special day? Take a moment every now and then to step aside and dust a little powder on your T-zone to continue to look flawless.

Home remedy stain removers

White is beautiful, but it’s not always easy to keep pristine. For unexpected smudges and spills, invest in a few tried-and-true tools, including white chalk, baby powder, and travel-size stain remover. Be certain to consider the type of fabric before attempting to remove the stain, and test the remover on a small, obscure area of your dress first.

Scissors

Even the best-made dresses can occasionally spring a few strings. This makes a pair of mini-scissors an absolute must in your “I Do” kit.

Double-sided tape

Double-sided tape is indispensable. Be certain to have some on hand if you’re in doubt that your dress will stay put.

Super glue

It’s crazy how many things you can do with super glue, including repairing broken heels and repairing bouquets.

Too busy to DIY? Be prepared for any big-day dramas with a Minimergency Kit, a purse-sized pouch filled with many of the quick-fixes listed above and more.
